Our Curriculum

At New Brancepeth Primary Academy, we have developed a curriculum based on the needs of our children.

Our curriculum allows children to learn, develop their skills and progress through imagination, curiosity, flexibility, independence, trust, openness and problem solving. It is designed to encourage their natural curiosity and stimulate their creativity. As a school we have carefully planned an interesting and exciting range of topics which are firmly rooted in the National Curriculum 2014 and the progression of key skills. Children’s understanding of the spiritual, social, moral and cultural elements of the curriculum are woven though all subjects as they underpin all areas of the curriculum. Specific events are timetabled termly to enhance children’s understanding of ‘Britishness’ in terms of heritage and culture.

Primary National Curriculum
Statutory Framework for EYFS

We believe our curriculum is broad, balanced but, above all, inspiring to all.

Curriculum Intent in more detail.

We organise our classes into single cohort and mixed age groups based on the three phases of primary education dependent upon cohort sizes. The school is organised as follows for this academic year:

  • Foundation Stage – Nursery (Bumblebee & Caterpillar) and Reception (Butterfly)
  • Key Stage One – Year One (Rabbit) /Year Two (Hedgehog)
  • Lower Key Stage Two – Year Three (Owl)/Year 4 (Squirrel)
  • Upper Key Stage Two – Year Five & Six (Badger).

As a result of this we operate a rolling programme of Year A and Year B for foundation subjects to ensure coverage of all curriculum areas.

Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND)

At New Brancepeth Primary Academy, we believe that inclusive education means providing all pupils with appropriate education and support alongside their peers. The Curriculum is all the planned activities that the school organises in order to promote learning, personal growth and development. Further information can be found in the SEND Information Report.

If you would like to discuss your SEND requirements in detail please contact the school to arrange an appointment.

Remote Learning

In the event that school or classes go back to remote learning, our Remote Learning Policy (see the Policies and Procedures page) will be followed with live lessons and children’s work being uploaded to their Teams accounts each day. Printed work packs will be made to accompany lessons and devices will be made available to children who don’t have access at home.
